Mercedes-Benz presented the C 111 at the 1969 Frankfurt International Motor Show.
With its wedge-shaped plastic bodywork, gullwing doors and rotary-piston - or Wankel - engine, the "research lab on wheels" surprised and intrigued visitors. Quite a
few customers wanted to buy the orange-colored car on the spot and offered blank checks - in vain: The C 111 was and remained an experimental car. The model shown
here is a further developed version from 1970.
